Onwards And Upwards

I’ve been training at CrossFit Casey for a little over a year now and I’m stronger in body and mind! I started this journey afraid. Afraid of what I was getting myself into, most of it completely foreign to me, something I thought was a “bloke” thing.

Here I am a year later and have completed my first CrossFit Open at the age of 51. Sure, there’s been sweat, there’s been blood, there’s been cussing, there’s been tears and there’s been exhaustion and self-doubt that has had me asking myself what the hell am I doing. But there’s also been mateship and comradery from a crew who genuinely encourage and miss you when you’re not there. They also believe in you when you’re feeling defeated and they care when you’re feeling down.

Since improving my fitness with CrossFit, I’ve participated in Triathlons, Fun Runs, Spartan, Adventure Racing and most recently The CrossFit Open.

Now in my later years, I’m just starting, and I’ve got plans for more for the rest of my life! But it’s not just about sporting endeavours, I’m fitter for general life, as a parent, an employee and most of all I’ve rediscovered my old self, crazy personality, and all.

Most of all I’ve learnt about myself, my strengths, my weaknesses and that it’s never too late and you’re never too old to try something new, to pick up on your long-forgotten dreams and to succeed.
